Concord Chapter #2756

May 2003 Volume 14 Issue 4

Director’s Report

Mark Banks

As they say the third time is the charm. After 2 failed attempts to get a group ride going Mother Nature saw fit to give us a wonderful day to ride. About thirty-five bikes took the ride to Monadnock Mt view Restaurant in Troy, NH where there was food o-plenty waiting for us. An ataboy should go out to our road captain Jack for leading us on a great ride around and thru the Monadnock region as well as getting us ready for bike week (those who went on the ride know what I mean).
The next group ride is schedule for Saturday, May 17th at 9 am. This will be a mystery ride (aren't they all) going to the Maine seacoast area, please be fueled up and ready to roll at 9 am sharp.
As you know May can only mean one thing "The world famous Concord hog poker run" The date is Saturday, May 31st 9 am with a rain date of Sunday, June 1st 9 am. This is our only fund raiser of the year so please come out and support it and bring a friend or two along. Please see activities officer Linda Bowie's report for those of you that have volunteered for times and places. A motion passed at the May meeting that this year’s charity will be THE OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN FOUNDATION, I can't think of a better reason to make this years run the best yet and to be able to send money to support our state symbol.
If everything goes right on Saturday then Sunday, June first will be our regular monthly meeting with a twist. Instead of a meeting and then a ride we will ride first and then have our meeting at Mount Cardigan State park. This will also be a pack your own lunch. The group will be rolling out at 9 am so please arrive a little early all fueled up and ready to ride.

Assistant Director’s Report

Manny Cardinale

Just a note to say thanks for the great attendance at the May 4th meeting. While we were riding I couldn’t help but think how good the riders in the club are at riding together. It is really much more enjoyable an experience when you ride with our folks on you're "wing" vs. other groups. On the trip back I was in the rear& the sight of our Harleys rumbling through the countryside looked BEAUTIFUL & sounded grand! For the first ride we really did a fine job. I wanted to thank Mark for the lunch set-up it really cut down on time and tasted great. We should try for that type of deal more often...we are a motorcycle club not the rolling gourmets!

See you all soon...keep your wheels down.

Secretary’s Report

Kathy Drake

I don't have much for every one except that I still have two short sleeve shirts left for sale. The folks that put their names down for the shirts that I still had available at the last meeting if you want to get them before the next meeting, you can reach me during the day at 271-2513 or in the evening at 783-4640.

One last thing I want to mention is, “What a great ride on Sunday!" It was a great day all the way around.

Have a great month and hope to see you soon.

Kathy Drake

Road Captain’s Report

Jack Aikins

Finally a meeting day without snow or rain! A chilly start but it warmed and about thirty six went on the ride to Monadnock Mt. View restaurant in Troy N.H. After a great brunch we headed home in a much warmer day. The ride went well and the group stayed together. For the Maine seacoast ride on may 17 we will ride to the coast in N.H. then

North on the coast to Kennebunk M.E. and have lunch at a brew pub overlooking a small harbor. After lunch and a short ride around Kennebunkport we will head home. Anyone that wants to join the ride at the seacoast can call me for a place to meet, (485-9377).

Hope to see you.

Webmaster’s Report

Carl Rehbein

The month of April has been a busy month. I received feedback from HOG regarding the Website. HOG had issues with some of the formatting and the online application. Kathy Drake and I worked out the online application issues and I made the HOG suggested formatting changes and resubmitted the website to HOG for review. I am happy to report that as of 1 May, the Concord HOG Chapter website was officially approved by HOG. Expect to see the website listed at the Harley Davidson and HOG websites in the next few weeks under the "Chapter Website section". I would also like to thank all of you who helped in the making of the site. All your suggestions in format, coloring, and content were a great help and made my work much easier. A job well done!!!!

People have asked about putting member’s names and numbers on the website. I have will try to accommodate any request, but I think this should be general agreement with the group and decided at a monthly meeting. I had hoped to bring this issue up at the May meeting, but there wasn't time. Keep in mind that anything on the website is public domain. Short of imposing strict encryption and password protection anyone can read a web page.

We need photos!!!!!!

Anyone with something they would like posted "please" email it to me. I would be more than happy to post it. I receive 100+ spam messages a day and sometimes I inadvertently delete a real message. So if you send me something please put "Concord HOG" or something catchy that would attract my attention. I will always send a reply that I got it. If you don't receive the reply I did an oops!!!! So resend it.

Some people are having trouble reading the newsletter in its current form. So I am going to look into formatting the newsletter another way so that as many people as possible (hopefully everyone) can read it. If anyone if having difficulty reading the online newsletter "please" let me know.

The "add name to mailing list" seems to be popular. As I get a request, the email is added to the list. When the May newsletter is posted, and I send all on the list the newsletter is online, I will also post a notice on the message board. If I missed someone, let me know.

Lastly, I stopped by Heritage Harley and borrowed the chapter and LOH photo from the peg board. I am going to digitize both into photo quality resolution and post them on the website. Once the photos are posted you will be able to print them on your printer or copy the file to disk and take it to Kinko’s, or Ritz camera and have a photo made from the disk. So everyone can have their own copy of the photo.

LOH Report

Lisa Pooler

LOH is making progress. We have a couple things in the works for this year. First of all LOH will have a group picture taken on June 1st after the Chapter meeting. I encourage all LOH members to be at the meeting for the picture since this will be the cover of the calendar we are going to make. We are hoping to be able to start selling the calendar in the fall. LOH is also sponsoring a ride on August 10th to Seacoast HOG’s Ride for the Animals. LOH will be providing a breakfast of baked goods and coffee to all Concord HOG members and their guests who will be going on the ride. LOH will also plan the route and lead the ride.

Finally, any new female members who ride, LOH would like to take you on a “Maiden Voyage” to introduce you to the LOH members and if you don’t have much experience riding in groups, give you an idea of what it’s like on a smaller scale. We will hopefully be setting this up at our next LOH meeting. Hope to see you at the Red Blazer Peanut Pub on May 20th.

On another note, LOH is going to be assisting with the Northeast Woman’s Motorcycle Rally, which will be held on August 16, 2003 at the Technical Institute in Concord. Please check out for all of the details. I also wanted to say a special thank you to Camille Gagnon. Camielle was nice enough to bring chocolate motorcycles to the last LOH meeting. She informed me that she will be bringing something to the next meeting for everyone too.

Editor’s Report

Stacy Colby

Hooray for warm weather! It’s finally here!

There is now a binder up at the shop which contains newsletters from other New England HOG Chapters. Take a look & see what’s going on within the local HOG area. Please do not remove ant of the newsletters as they are for everyone to look at. If there are any other chapters whose newsletter you would like to see please send me the name & address of that chapter and I will gladly exchange newsletters with them.

For those of you who have not checked out the National HOG website,, I recommend you do. There is some great members only stuff from details of your membership to screensavers & wallpaper.

In this issue I am including a calendar of events within our chapter as well as other events in the area. As always, I am open to any comments or suggestions you may have regarding the newsletter. It’s a way to communicate with all of the members within the chapter so please contact me.

Lastly, don’t forget about the Poker Run on May 31st! Get the word out as it is our only fundraiser for the year!

Ride safe,
